Jīngxǐ |
The surprise |
Daisy |
Daisy ná qǐ huàtǒng, shìzhe
zàicì liánxì tā de kèhù. |
Daisy picked up
the telephone and tried to get through to her client
again. |
Frank
Baccini |
Tā de kèhù shì yī wèi
yǒngyǒu yī jiàn xiāoshòu diànzǐ yòngpǐn màichǎng de míng
jiào Frank Baccini de xiānshēng. Zhè wèi xiānshēng
yǐjīng liǎng tiān méiyǒu fù tā gōngqiánle. |
Her client, a
certain Frank Baccini, who had a warehouse of electrical
goods, had not paid for her two days' work. |
Daisy yǐjīng xiǎngfāngshèfǎ
zhǎo chūle Baccini xiānshēng nà wèi bù chéngshí de
huǒbàn xiànzài de zhùzhǐ. Daisy zhèng jíqiè de
děngdàizhuó tā de zhīpiào de dàolái. |
Daisy had managed
to discover where Mr. Baccini's dishonest partner was
now living and was anxiously expecting her cheque.
|
Daisy |
Daisy zhèng yào kāishǐ
juéde tā de kèhù yěshì yīgè bù chéngshí de rén. |
Daisy was
beginning to think that her client was dishonest too.
|
“喂,你是哪位?”,话筒那头传来一句老套的问候。 |
“Wèi, nǐ shì nǎ wèi?”,
Huàtǒng nà tóu chuán lái yījù lǎo tào de wènhòu. |
A very bored
"Hello, can I help you?" was the reply at the other end.
|
Zhè shì yī wèi niánqīng nǚzǐ
de shēngyīn, tā shì Baccini xiānshēng de mìshū. |
It was a young
woman's voice, Frank Baccini's secretary. |
“请问Baccini先生在吗?” |
“Qǐngwèn Baccini xiānshēng
zài ma?” |
"I'd like to
speak to Mr. Baccini, please." |
“不好意思,Baccini先生有事出城去了。”
|
“Bù hǎoyìsi,Baccini
xiānshēng yǒushì chūchéng qùle.” |
"Sorry, Mr.
Baccini is out of town." |
“那他什么时候才回来呢?”Daisy坚持道。 |
“Nà tā shénme shíhou cái
huílái ne?”Daisy jiānchí dào. |
"But when is he
coming back?" insisted Daisy. |
“不好意思,我不知道。” |
“Bù hǎoyìsi, wǒ bù zhīdào.” |
"I'm afraid I
don't know." |
“你能不能转告他Daisy Hamilton打过电话,有急事要和他说。”
|
“Nǐ néng bùnéng zhuǎngào tā
Daisy Hamilton dǎguò diànhuà, yǒu jíshì yào hé tā shuō.” |
"Will you tell
him Daisy Hamilton telephoned and would like to talk to
him urgently." |
“嗯……行吧,我想。”对方漠不关心地回答道。 |
“Ń……xíng ba, wǒ xiǎng.”
Duìfāng mòbùguānxīndehuídá dào. |
"Well - yes, I
suppose so," was the completely unconcerned reply.
|
Frank
Baccini |
Zhè yǐjīng shì liǎng zhōu
nèi Daisy dìshí cì yǔ zhè wèi niánqīng nǚshì tōnghuàle,
dànshì Frank Baccini háishì méiyǒu yǔ tā liánxì. |
This was the
tenth telephone conversation Daisy had had in two weeks
with this young woman, but Frank Baccini hadn't got in
touch with her yet. |
Daisy fēicháng fènnù, bìng
juédìng yào qù Baccini xiānshēng de màichǎng kàn kàn tā
shì bùshì zài nà'er. |
Daisy was furious
and decided to go to Mr. Baccini's warehouse to see if
he was there. |
Dàodále màichǎng, tā qiāo
xiǎngle bàngōngshì de mén. |
When she arrived,
she knocked on the office door. |
“请进。”Baccini先生的秘书用她那单调的声音说道。 |
“Qǐng jìn.”Baccini xiānshēng
de mìshū yòng tā nà dāndiào de shēngyīn shuōdao. |
Mr. Baccini's
secretary said in her monotonous voice: "Come in."
|
“我已经打过很多次电话了,我的名字是Daisy
Hamilton。” |
“Wǒ yǐjīng dǎguò hěnduō cì
diànhuàle, wǒ de míngzì shì Daisy Hamilton.” |
"I've telephoned
many times - my name is Daisy Hamilton." |
“是吗?你想找谁?”这位年轻女士连看都不看Daisy一眼。
|
“Shì ma? Nǐ xiǎng zhǎo
shuí?” Zhè wèi niánqīng nǚshì lián kàn dōu bù kàn Daisy
yīyǎn. |
"Really? Who did
you want to speak to?" asked the young woman without
even glancing at Daisy. |
“我找Baccini先生。”Daisy回答道。
|
“Wǒ zhǎo Baccini
xiānshēng.” Daisy huídá dào. |
"I want to speak
to Mr. Baccini," replied Daisy. |
Tā juéde yuè lái yuè
shēngqìle. |
She was becoming
even more aggressive. |
“不好意思,他现在不在。”秘书用她那一贯单调的语气回答道,然后她又接着看起她的杂志来了。 |
“Bù hǎoyìsi, tā xiànzài
bùzài.” Mìshū yòng tā nà yīguàn dāndiào de yǔqì huídá
dào, ránhòu tā yòu jiēzhe kàn qǐ tā de zázhì láile. |
"I'm afraid he's
not here," said the secretary in her usual monotonous
way and went on reading her magazine. |
Daisy
|
Daisy rǎng dào:“Zhè yě tài
guòfènle ba!” Ránhòu zá mén ér qù. |
Daisy shouted
"Enough is enough!" and banged the door closed.
|
Daisy
|
Daisy juéde hěn jǔsàng.
|
Daisy felt rather
depressed. |
“我知道该怎么办了”她想到,“我要去Luigi那儿来盘美味的香蕉船。”
|
“Wǒ zhīdào gāi zěnme bànle”
tā xiǎngdào,“wǒ yào qù Luigi nà'er lái pán měiwèi de
xiāngjiāo chuán.” |
"I know what I'll
do," she thought, "I'll stop off at Luigi's for a nice
banana split." |
|
Daisy xǐhuan zuò zài Luigi
xuěgāo diàn hé nà wèi fánshì dōu wǎng jījí chù xiǎng de
yìdàlì diànzhǔ liáo jǐ jù. |
Daisy liked
sitting in Luigi's ice-cream parlour and having a little
chat with the owner, a positive-thinking Italian.
|
Chī wánliǎo xuěgāo
yǐhòu,Daisy biān shàng tōng xiàng bàngōngshì de lóutī
biān juéde tā duì rénlèi de kànfǎ méiyǒu nàme bēiguānle. |
As Daisy walked
up the stairs to her office she felt a little less sore
about human beings. |
|
Zhèngdàng Daisy zài huàn
shàng yīshuāng gèng shūfú de xiézi de shíhou, yǒurén
qiāole qiāo bàngōngshì de mén ránhòu zǒuliǎo jìnlái. |
Just as Daisy was
changing her shoes to a more comfortable pair, someone
knocked on the door and walked in. |
Qiāo mén de shì yī wèi
chuānzhuó gōng zhuāng kù de bānyùn gōngrén. |
It was a workman
in overalls. |
“不好意思打扰了,请问您是Daisy
“Bù hǎoyìsi dǎrǎole, qǐngwèn
nín shì Daisy Hamilton xiǎojiě ma? Wǒmen gāi bǎ zhèxiē
dōngxi fàng zài nǎ'er?” Tā zhǐle zhǐ bǎi zài lóutī
píngtái shàng de liǎng gè dà xiāngzi. |
"Excuse me miss -
are you Miss Daisy Hamilton? Where shall we put these?"
pointing to two large boxes on the landing. |
“对,我是Daisy Hamilton。可是那些是什么啊?箱子里装的是什么啊?”
|
“Duì, wǒ shì Daisy Hamilton.
Kěshì nàxiē shì shénme a? Xiāngzi lǐ zhuāng de shì
shénme a?” |
"Yes, I am Daisy
Hamilton but what have you got there - what's in those
boxes?" |
“大的是冰箱,小的是咖啡机。您很有眼光,您知道吗,这些牌子是目前最好的。” |
“Dà de shì bīngxiāng, xiǎo
de shì kāfēi jī. Nín hěn yǒu yǎnguāng, nín zhīdào ma,
zhèxiē páizi shì mùqián zuì hǎo de.” |
"The big one is a
fridge and the smaller one is a cappuccino-making
machine. You've chosen well, you know, these are the
best makes around." |
“可这些东西不是我订的啊!”Daisy惊叫道。 |
“Kě zhèxiē dōngxi bùshì wǒ
dìng de a!”Daisy jīng jiào dào. |
"I haven't
ordered either of these," exclaimed Daisy. |
“可是收货单上写的是您的名字啊。”搬运工人坚持道。 |
“Kěshì shōu huò dān shàng
xiě de shì nín de míngzì a.” Bānyùn gōngrén jiānchí dào. |
"But it's your
name on the delivery note!" insisted the workman.
|
“这些货品都已经预付了,请告诉我该把它们摆在哪儿就行了。” |
“Zhèxiē huòpǐn dōu yǐjīng
yùfùle, qǐng gàosu wǒ gāi bǎ tāmen bǎi zài nǎ'er
jiùxíngle.” |
"It's all paid
for - just tell me where to put them." |
Frank
Baccini |
Zhèngdàng Daisy zhǔnbèi
jùjué shōu huò de shíhou, tā kàn dào Frank Baccini
xiānshēng yě zǒuliǎo jìnlái. |
Daisy was just
about to refuse the goods when she saw Frank Baccini
coming in the door, too. |
“Hamilton小姐,很抱歉我最近一直没有与你联系。” |
“Hamilton xiǎojiě, hěn
bàoqiàn wǒ zuìjìn yīzhí méiyǒu yǔ nǐ liánxì.” |
"Miss Hamilton.
I'm very sorry I haven't been in touch. |
“我衷心希望你不会介意,但是我注意到你的办公室里没有冰箱……还有,这个咖啡机是我们的拳头产品。”
|
“Wǒ zhōngxīn xīwàng nǐ bù
huì jièyì, dànshì wǒ zhùyì dào nǐ de bàngōngshì lǐ
méiyǒu bīngxiāng……hái yǒu, zhège kāfēi jī shì wǒmen de
quántóu chǎnpǐn.” |
I do hope you
don't mind but I had noticed you didn't have a fridge in
your office and... this cappuccino-making machine is a
little speciality. |
“噢,还有,这是你的支票,工作期间你的支出也包括在里面了。你的表现实在是太出色了。” |
“Ō, hái yǒu, zhè shì nǐ de
zhīpiào, gōngzuò qíjiān nǐ de zhīchū yě bāokuò zài
lǐmiànle. Nǐ de biǎoxiàn shízài shì tài chūsèle.” |
Oh, by the way
here is your cheque for the excellent work you did, with
a little extra for your expenses." |
Frank Baccini
xiānshēng kàn dào Daisy yī liǎn jīngyà de yàngzi yúshì
yòu shuōdao: |
Frank Baccini saw
Daisy was astonished and added: |
“我希望我的秘书给你打过电话了吧?我之前那几个星期度蜜月去了。” |
“Wǒ xīwàng wǒ de mìshū gěi
nǐ dǎguò diànhuàle ba? Wǒ zhīqián nà jǐ gè xīngqí dù
mìyuè qùle.” |
"My secretary did
phone you, I hope? I've been away for a couple of weeks
on honeymoon." |
Daisy píngfùle zìjǐ de
xīnqíng, ránhòu shuōdao:“Ń, tā méi gěi wǒ dǎ diànhuà.
Dànshì,Baccini xiānshēng, xiànzài zhè dōu méiguānxìle.” |
Daisy recovered
herself, "Well, no, she didn't - but that's quite all
right Mr. Baccini!" |
