La surprizo |
The surprise |
Dejzi prenis la telefonon kaj provis
denove kontakti sian klienton. |
Daisy picked up the
telephone and tried to get through to her client again. |
laboron. |
Her client, a certain
Frank Baccini, who had a warehouse of electrical goods, had not paid for
her two days' work. |
Dejzi sukcesis malkovri, kie nun loĝas
malhonesta partnero de sinjoro Baĉini, kaj estis maltrankvile atendanta
sian ĉekon. |
Daisy had managed to
discover where Mr. Baccini's dishonest partner was now living and was
anxiously expecting her cheque. |
Dejzi komencis suspekti, ke ŝia
kliento ankaŭ estas malhonesta. |
Daisy was beginning to
think that her client was dishonest too. |
A very bored "Hello, can
I help you?" was the reply at the other end. |
Tio estis la voĉo de juna virino,
sekretario de Franko Baĉini. |
It was a young woman's
voice, Frank Baccini's secretary. |
"Mi dezirus paroli kun sinjoro Baĉini,
se vi bonvolas." |
"I'd like to speak to Mr.
Baccini, please." |
"Bedaŭrinde sinjoro Baĉini ne estas en
la urbo." |
"Sorry, Mr. Baccini is
out of town." |
"Sed kiam li revenos?" insistis Dejzi. |
"But when is he coming
back?" insisted Daisy. |
"Mi timas, ke mi ne scias." |
"I'm afraid I don't
know." |
"Ĉu vi povas informi lin, ke telefonis
Dejzi Hamilton, kiu dezirus urĝe paroli kun li." |
"Will you tell him Daisy
Hamilton telephoned and would like to talk to him urgently." |
"Nu - jes, mi supozas, ke mi povas,"
sekvis tute indiferenta respondo. |
"Well - yes, I suppose
so," was the completely unconcerned reply. |
Tio estis la deka telefona konversacio
el tiuj, kiujn Dejzi havis dum du semajnoj kun ĉi tiu junulino, tamen
Frank Baĉini ne kontaktis ŝin ĝis nun. |
This was the tenth
telephone conversation Daisy had had in two weeks with this young woman,
but Frank Baccini hadn't got in touch with her yet. |
Daisy was furious and
decided to go to Mr. Baccini's warehouse to see if he was there. |
Kiam ŝi alvenis, ŝi frapetis la
oficejan pordon. |
When she arrived, she
knocked on the office door. |
La sekretario de sinjoro Baĉini diris
per sia monotona voĉo: "Envenu." |
Mr. Baccini's secretary
said in her monotonous voice: "Come in." |
"Mi telefonis jam multfoje - mia nomo
estas Dejzi Hamilton." |
"I've telephoned many
times - my name is Daisy Hamilton." |
"Ĉu vere? Kun kiu vi volis paroli?"
demandis la junulino, eĉ ne rigardante al Dejzi. |
"Really? Who did you want
to speak to?" asked the young woman without even glancing at Daisy. |
"Mi volas paroli kun sinjoro Baĉini,"
respondis Dejzi. |
"I want to speak to Mr.
Baccini," replied Daisy. |
Ŝi iĝis pli kaj pli agresema. |
She was becoming even
more aggressive. |
"Mi timas, ke li ne estas ĉi tie,"
diris la sekretario en sia kutima monotona maniero kaj daŭrigis legadon
de sia revuo. |
"I'm afraid he's not
here," said the secretary in her usual monotonous way and went on
reading her magazine. |
Dejzi kriis "Sufiĉe estas sufiĉe!" kaj
kun frapo fermis la pordon. |
Daisy shouted "Enough is
enough!" and banged the door closed. |
Dejzi sentis sin iom deprimita. |
Daisy felt rather depressed. |
"Mi scias, kion mi faru," ŝi pensis,
"mi haltu ĉe Luiĝi por frandi bongustan bananan splitaĵon." |
"I know what I'll do,"
she thought, "I'll stop off at Luigi's for a nice banana split." |
Dejzi ŝatis sidi en la glaciaĵejo de
Luiĝi, babilante kun la posedanto, pozitiv-pensanta italo. |
Daisy liked sitting in
Luigi's ice-cream parlour and having a little chat with the owner, a
positive-thinking Italian. |
Kiam Dejzi supreniris laŭ ŝtuparo al
sia oficejo, ŝi sentis sin iom malpli ĉagrenita koncerne homojn. |
As Daisy walked up the
stairs to her office she felt a little less sore about human beings. |
Just as Daisy was
changing her shoes to a more comfortable pair, someone knocked on the
door and walked in. |
Tio estis laboristo, surhavanta
supertuton. |
It was a workman in
overalls. |
"Pardonu min, sinjorino - ĉu vi estas
sinjorino Dejzi Hamilton? Kien ni metu ilin?" li demandis, indikante du
grandajn kestojn, starantajn sur la ŝtupar-placeto. |
"Excuse me miss - are you
Miss Daisy Hamilton? Where shall we put these?" pointing to two large
boxes on the landing. |
"Jes, mi estas Dejzi Hamilton, sed
kion vi havas tie - kio estas en tiuj kestoj?" |
"Yes, I am Daisy Hamilton
but what have you got there - what's in those boxes?" |
"Tiu granda estas fridŝranko kaj la
pli eta estas capuĉin-aŭtomato. Sciu, ke vi elektis bone, tiuj estas la
plej bonaj el haveblaj varoj." |
"The big one is a fridge
and the smaller one is a cappuccino-making machine. You've chosen well,
you know, these are the best makes around." |
"Mi mendis nenion el tiuj,"
eksklamaciis Dejzi. |
"I haven't ordered either
of these," exclaimed Daisy. |
"Sed estas via nomo sur la
liver-kvitanco!" insistis la laboristo. |
"But it's your name on
the delivery note!" insisted the workman. |
"Ambaŭ aĵoj estas pripagitaj - nur
diru al mi, kien ni ilin metu." |
"It's all paid for - just
tell me where to put them." |
Dejzi intencis rifuzi tiujn varojn,
Daisy was just about to
refuse the goods when she saw Frank Baccini coming in the door, too. |
"Sinjorino Hamilton, mi tre bedaŭras,
ke mi estis nekontaktebla." |
"Miss Hamilton. I'm very
sorry I haven't been in touch. |
"Mi esperas, ke vi ne kontraŭas, sed
mi rimarkis, ke vi ne havas fridsŝankon en via oficejo kaj... ĉi tiu
capuĉin-aŭtomato estas eta specialaĵo." |
"I do hope you don't mind
but I had noticed you didn't have a fridge in your office and... this
cappuccino-making machine is a little speciality. |
"Ho, interalie jen estas via ĉeko pro
la bonega laboro, kiun vi faris, kun iom da ekstra pago pro viaj
elspezoj." |
"Oh, by the way here is
your cheque for the excellent work you did, with a little extra for your
expenses." |
Franko Baĉini ekvidis, ke Dejzi estis
mirigita, kaj aldonis: |
Frank Baccini saw Daisy
was astonished and added: |
"Mi esperas, ke mia sekretario
telefonis al vi, ĉu? Mi forestis dum paro da semajnoj por mielmonato." |
"My secretary did phone
you, I hope? I've been away for a couple of weeks on honeymoon." |
Dejzi deskuis sian stuporon, "Nu,
Daisy recovered herself,
"Well, no, she didn't - but that's quite all right Mr. Baccini!" |
